I have to admit that I am not always on board with some of J.Crew's trendier items but I am infatuated with Mickey Drexler and certainly watching J.Crew and the Man that dressed America this Thursday, May 24th at 10pm EST.
Some items I am loving for spring and summer...
I remember placing my first J.Crew order...well circling the items in the catalog and giving it to my mom. I was in 6th grade and my fashion selection was mainly body suits with flannels tied around my waist. I will also always associate this look with songs like November Rain and Under the Bridge. Did you take part in the flannel shirt trend? When was your first J.Crew order?
I often wonder why Mickey couldn't keep that magic alive at the GAP!
ReplyDeleteI did take place in the flannel-shirt trend, as documented in my 8th-grade yearbook. :)
ReplyDeleteI am so impressed with J. Crew lately. There is an excellent preppy revival going on there. Last time I was in there were so many striped shirts and dresses, plus cute strapless dresses, nautical themes, ruffles, and shorter skirts. Big improvement! Thanks for sharing the info about the Mickey Drexler interview.
Just set the DVR to record. Thank you! And, along with the Saint James tee's, I rec the linen shirts in the navy, pink and on deck green. Also, spied leopard, linen capris that have me on the cool vs tacky fence...XXOO
ReplyDeleteYes! I remember my first JCrew order, too. A turquoise halter shirt that I wasn't allowed to wear to school, so I wore it to a baseball game after school and thought i was so hot hahaha. I was maybe 8th grade?
ReplyDeleteWe have spent a pretty penny at J . crew over the years:) everyone in our family can always find something to wear and love. Not an easy task;)
ReplyDeleteI definitely remember my first purchase, I was around the same age you were and my mom helped me place an order for two cable knit sweaters! It's nice to see more of the classics peaking into their summer offerings this year.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, I have swayed away from J. Crew the past few seasons for the same reason. I just can't do trendy well.
ReplyDeleteFirst order was in 9th grade and it included a white mini skirt in a mint green and light blue plaid. And I was hooked!
ReplyDeleteI love the Naomi top! I want one in every color.
ReplyDeleteWe both had J.Crew on our minds today! XO
ReplyDeleteI think my first JCrew purchase was a purple and green flowered halter dress in middle school. It's still one of my favorite brands! I have that ruffled top in mint green and in orange, very cute :-) I'll have to DVR that special, thanks for the rec!
ReplyDeleteFunny, we were just taking a trip down memory lane the other day about the sea of plaid shirts that my son wore a few years ago....he said "Mom - why didn't you stop me?" Ha....it is funny when we look back how we see something we once loved look so silly, Now he has a girlfriend....to love.

The J Crew memory lane is a fun one! I used to circle everything in the catalog. Remember the sale catalogs they used to send out? J Crew fall 2007 was one of my favorite seasons. That was a prep heaven. I still have some of those catalogs. Crazy.
ReplyDeleteI too, had a flannel shirt and bodysuit phase. It was not cute!
