Resolutions

Over the weekend my unaccomplished resolution of learning how to play squash was brought up...leave it to JCW to remind me how I failed miserably. Squash has been moved to the back burner for new resolutions in 2012.

Did you hear that shooting is the new Squash? I want to go shooting more in the new year. I am not saying my goal is to be good, just make more of an effort and become more comfortable with a shotgun.

Another resolution is to re-wear and not care! I have never been a big re-wearer because I am always thinking someone is saying..."here she is again in that darn cape". It's funny because when I make a purchase, one of the selling points is that I am going to get a lot of wear out of the piece. Clothes are meant to be worn and loved but sometimes the re-wearing line can be unclear. Do you have issues with re-wearing?

My most realistic resolution is to make time to shoot with my new camera and I am not talking about my usual camera in one hand, cocktail in the other routine.

Your Birthday Song

Yesterday I saw an app on Facebook to see what song was at the top of the charts on your birthday. The app seemed to have all sorts of glitches so I did some more investigating and found a site called This Day in Music. You can search any date you want...which is a lot of fun!

My bday song:

JCW's bday song:

Didn't you just love the 80s...what's your birthday song?

Lilly of Paradise

Lilly: Palm Beach, Tropical Exuberance, and the Birth of a Fashion Legend by Kathryn Livingston is scheduled for release in July and can currently be pre-ordered.

The real story behind a very private American fashion icon—Lilly Pulitzer

Today, Lilly Pulitzer's iconic brand of clean-cut, vibrantly printed clothes called "Lillys" can be spotted everywhere. What began decades ago as a snob uniform in Palm Beach became a general fashion craze and, later, an American classic. In contrast to the high visibility of her brand, Lilly Pulitzer has largely kept her tumultuous personal story to herself. Bursting forth into glossy fame from a protected low-key world of great wealth and high society, through heartbreaks, treacheries, scandals, and losses, her life, told in detail here for the first time, is every bit as colorful and exciting as her designs.

  • Offers a close-up of Palm Beach society, replete with tropical mischief, reckless indulgences and blatant infidelities as well as fascinating stories about the Pulitzer and Phipps families and their world of eccentrics, high achievers, intermarriages, and glamorous trendsetters.
  • Takes a fresh look at the Roxanne Pulitzer scandal and the atmosphere that fed it, and other episodes involving Lilly Pulitzer's family and social circle.
  •  Traces the many ups-and-downs in Lilly Pulitzer's personal life as well as her business, which suffered a decline in the 1980s before its resurgent transformation into the thriving success it is today.
  •  Includes 25 black-and-white photographs that bring Lilly Pulitzer's world to life.
I have a feeling this book is going to make a fabulous beach read. Will you be pre-ordering the 256 pages of Lilly indulgence?

NYE Night

We started the night with a little champagne and

 some Apples to Apples.

The Grateful Dead card was by far my favorite in the deck.

The girlies were ready to get the party started.

We all hopped in A's new whip and headed to Summer House for dinner...thank goodness for jump seats.

The boys sat at one table and the girls at another...that seemed to be our theme for the weekend.

 EAS & JCW

After dinner we headed into the buzzing bar area...Rudder's mom certainly loves her Veuve.

Happy 2012!

Special thanks to Rudder's parents for having us at the beach to ring in the New Year and Debbie at the Summer House for accommodating our requests. xx

NYE Day

We woke up New Years Eve and made a coffee run to get charged up for the day.

By the time we got back from Starbucks the breakfast casserole which was made with fresh eggs from the Country Couple's chickens had just come out of the oven.

After breakfast we walked down to the beach...with the temperature in the mid-50s there was no need to bundle up.

Captain Henry and Rudder couldn't have been more excited.

 EAS & JCW

 Rudder enjoyed the salt air.

It was fabulous to be barefoot on the beach in January.

Seeing those bad boys frolic reminded me of the beach scene in Marley & Me...this song started playing in my head. There was one minor incident when the wet dogs tried to play with a lady who was wearing all white and unfortunately wanted nothing to do with them.

Captain Henry wasn't ready to leave the beach.

We had lunch in town and stopped in Summer House to check on our reservation for that evening.

NYE Eve

For New Years Eve we headed to Rehoboth Beach with Rudder's Parents, A&T and the Country Couple.

The house was filled with the most beautiful needlepoint creations that Rudder's great-grandmother had made.

We stayed with two very bad dogs...Rudder and his brother Captain Henry. While everyone was preparing dinner they snuck out undetected, took a dip in the ocean and made their way to the boardwalk. Luckily someone spotted them and called to inform us of their whereabouts. It was hard to be mad at those adorable faces.

Dinner was a surf 'n' turf birthday celebration.

After eating dinner we all gathered around the fire...

and enjoyed some drinks and a rather intense game of Taboo. It was girls vs. boys and the girls came out ahead.

Finally it was time for birthday cake! The country couple have their own chickens hence the chicken themed cake from Grauls.

Another Woodberry Reunion

Over the holidays I had yet another reunion at one of my favorite restaurants, Woodberry Kichen.

Lawyer Liz and I met a friend that was in town from Florida.

Woodberry has a great selection of espresso drinks so I decided to try Honey Macchiato.

The Cast Iron Skillet Eggs are always changing depending upon what ingredients are available...that's the beauty of a farm-to-table restaurant.

I order Eggs Benedict more often than not but my favorite is the Crab Benedict...when it's on the menu.

The atmosphere is always so warm and inviting.

Lawyer Liz and I didn't plan on wearing a matching scarf and shirt so it was funny when we first laid eyes on one another.

Pillow Talk

These stylish shams from Designer Cushions would surely add some interest to a sofa or chaise lounge. I am partial to the horse & hound themed pillows.

Homecoming

I am home from The Greenbrier in West Virginia. I took a girls trip with my mom and sister. We got a little snow in the mountains which made the resort even more beautiful...my camera is cooling down from all of the pictures I took!

I watched Sunday Morning's piece on Steven Spielberg's War Horse and loved that a horse walked the red carpet at the U.K. premier. I am excited to see the film and will be sure to bring lots of tissues.

I arrived home to a new Elsa top that I scored from a Lilly Pulitzer sale on Rue La La in addition to a yucky cold.

New Adventure

My bags are packed and I am going on a little vacation. Any guesses where I am headed? See you Tuesday and have a wonderful holiday weekend!

NM Run

Over the holidays I met Ms. YSL at Neiman Marcus for lunch. We got to catch up, see some of our old co-workers and most importantly have Tortilla Soup.

It was very strange yet exciting to use a Visa for the first time in the store.

After lunch we hightailed it to the handbag department. Within minutes Ms. YSL had already found her new bag. Handbags always look more appealing when you weren't the one that unboxed them or carried them down from the stock room.

I had my eyes on a new pair of Louboutins. I have taken exceptional care of my current pairs...are you listening JCW. This may be his first comment ever, I can already see it..."No".
