Shoo-Fly Diner

My weekend agenda consisted of trying a new restaurant in Baltimore called Shoo-Fly Diner. It's owned by the same proprietors as Woodberry Kitchen. The menu is local, comfort food and the atmosphere is casual and very kid friendly.

I headed there Thursday night with the QG and sampled their Disco Fries and Bourbon Slush.

My foodie husband had restaurant envy, so I ended up going the following evening as well. I ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger Salad and couldn't have been more pleased. Another standout was my gluten free Biscuit that came with homemade Grape Jelly.

I am off for a quick adventure. Have a Happy Halloween and see you all next week!

Dance Floor

The bear was kind enough to hold my bouquet while I enjoyed the reception.

Our niece and nephew were the first to hit the dance floor. They had to live it up before their sitter came.

Mr. H was the second on the dance floor and he never left but articles of his clothing did.

The band covered everything from current hits to some favorites from our youth.

ESW, A, Lawyer Liz

There was a little 80's music...

some GNR...

and they didn't forget the classics.

The night ended with a Springsteen encore.

We couldn't have been happier with the music and are already planning on hiring Misspent Youth for an anniversary party down the road.

First Dance

 Copyright 2013 Amy Deputy Photography
One of our very first phones calls after setting the wedding date was to Misspent Youth. We love live music and had heard them play at a local fundraiser. They ended up having another gig but did some rearranging to play our wedding. They aren't your traditional wedding band, which is exactly what we wanted.

We were planning on dancing to Bright Side of the Road  for our first dance, but both agreed we could opt out of the first dance entirely if we weren't feeling it on the day of wedding. The idea of all eyes on us wasn't something we were totally comfortable with so during cocktail hour, we scratched first dance. Randomly we started dancing to Living on Prayer and everyone gathered around us.

It was next to impossible to pick just one song that represented us. There are so many songs that remind us of one another. Now Living on a Prayer has taken on a whole new meaning, thanks to our guests that weren't willing to accept a wedding without a first dance. It's been fun, a little embarrassing and rather unexpected telling people that our first dance was to Bon Jovi's Living on Prayer and that there may or may not have been a tambourine involved.

Fall Trends

I am all about this season's trends and certainly going to pick up an ivory sweater or two. Ivory is a great neutral whether honeycomb or cableknit.

There are a lot of selections when it comes to the leopard slipper trend. You can find them everywhere from Lands End to J.Crew.

I do love the leather fad (in moderation) but the only thing that makes me a little hesitant is cleaning the garments. I have a leather trimmed sweater that the dry cleaners won't touch, which means a hefty cleaning bill from a leather specialist.

Cinnamon H20

We have been nursing fall colds and are finally feeling like ourselves. I made Apple Cinnamon Water in an effort to stay hydrated and drink during a Homeland binge. I cut up honeycrisp apples, added cinnamon and ice. Everything always tastes much better from our Addison Picher.

Cape Charles Wedding

The last weekend in September we headed to Cape Charles for a wedding.

After the lawn ceremony, it was time for cocktail hour.

The weather couldn't have been more perfect for an evening on the Chesapeake Bay.

Elephant Shower

There was baby shower thrown for Rudder's mom, who was expecting this fall.

It was a Thursday night shower which meant cocktails were flowing.

The hostesses did a great job incorporating elephants...

...but that wasn't the only theme.

Congratulations to Rudder's parents who welcomed CFP, born 10-2-13!

The Southerner's Handbook

The Southerner's Handbook: A Guide to Living the Good Lifewill be released on October 29th and is available for pre-order. The book is comprised of tips and tricks from contributors of Garden & Gun Magazine.

There's more to being Southern than just living below the Mason-Dixon. It takes some know-how. From throwing a crawfish boil to betting on a horse at the Derby to, yes, even whipping up a stiff drink, we've rounded up the experts and put together a list of tips, tricks, and secrets to help make sure you're up to speed.

When it comes to Maryland being a Southern or Northern state, there's definitely confusion (see #13). Would you say Maryland is Southern or Northern?

On the Road

Over the weekend we spent a lot of time in the car traveling to a wedding in Cape Charles, VA. I loaded up on Sweet Leaf Tea for the trek back and we listened to This American Life.

JCW couldn't wait to get to Bojangles' and I may have even indulged in some fries but I am blaming that on the jack & gingers from the night before.

I had ample time to admire my fall nail color "Chubby Cheeks" when I wasn't reaching for the registration in the glove box.
