Black-Eyed Susan Remix

The Black-Eyed Susan which is the official drink of Preakness served at Pimlico was updated this year by mixtress Gina Chersevani of Hank’s Oyster Bar. It was shocking to see a Susan with a pink hue instead of orange but the cocktail was rather tasty.

Black Eyed Susan
1 ½ oz. Finlandia Vodka
½ oz. St. Germain Liqueur
1 oz. lemon juice
½ oz. raspberry juice or strawberry juice (squeeze and strain yourself, or purchase at Whole Foods Markets)
½ oz. simple syrup
Half a stalk of lemongrass
1 sage leaf

How to you feel about the remix? Should they have stuck with the traditional recipe or is Pimlico merely getting with the times with this fancy new cocktail?

Pimlico Tour

We decided not to take our honeymoon right after the wedding because we wanted to relax and had no intention of missing Preakness.

I took a tour of Pimlico Racetrack and the Jockey's Room a couple days before the big race.

It was fun to see The Horseman's Home Grille where Jockey's could pick up anything from scrapple sandwiches to Red Bulls.

Pick up duty the following day

       Our wedding day was by far the best day of my life. To have had all the people I love in the same place and marry JCW was a dream come true. Things didn't exactly go as planned and we were forced to delay our ceremony and ended up getting married in the driveway instead of on the lawn. I can honestly say that the rain forced everyone to come together which made the ceremony so much more intimate.

       In planning our wedding it was very important for us to have a relaxed party-like atmosphere and that's exactly what we had. We didn't follow all of the typical wedding traditions and instead did whatever felt right. We couldn't have asked for a better day! I can't wait to see my real "non-iPhone" pictures.

Special thanks to our families, Captain Chesapeake (who went above and beyond) and all of our friends for making our special day SO incredibly special...we love you all! xx

Very Superstitious

When JCW opened this fortune, we couldn't help but smile and take it as a very good sign. We have always been very superstitious and 7 is our lucky number. The other day my mom told me that my sister's dress alternations were $77 dollars and when JCW's mom emailed me that the high for Saturday is scheduled to be 77º...I felt like everything was falling into place.

I am really looking forward to our wedding day and can't wait to officially be married, celebrate with our friends & family and also hit the dance floor. Wish us luck for May 11th!
