Sorting Silverware

Do you segregate your silverware? I always load my dishwasher with my forks, knives, and spoons all separated...it makes unloading that much easier. Once you try this you will never go back to sorting your silverware come unloading time. Let me know if you already practice this method or if you think you will give it a whirl.

  1. I used to do that, but our dishwasher wouldn't get all the gunk off the dishes because they were laying next to each other. :(
So I on purpose don't segregate the utensils. It is so interesting you mention this because a friend and I had a conversation about this two days ago!

  2. I use my silver every day and put it in the dishwasher (gasp), so I try to keep it separate from the cooking utensils, knives, etc that could scratch it. But I don't sort it by fork v. knife v. spoon.

  3. With three kids in the house...we are lucky to get them to put their cutlery in the diswasher at all...let alone sorting it....
But I do like your idea!

  4. I don't segregate, except the utensils I take to work (stainless steel) from the good stuff I use at home (silver plate).

  5. My mom told me never to do that. She didn't want things laying flat and thus trapping food detritus. So now I always god fork, fork, fork,...; knife, knife, knife..., spoon, spoon, spoon - etc.

  6. great idea! if I could only get everyone to play along. Maybe invent a label that is dishwasher safe that says forks, knives, spoon, other.

  7. Good idea! My plan of action has always been shove whatever will fit in there as quickly as you can. :)

  8. I mix my utensils up for the same reason mentioned above, two of the same getting stuck together and not washed correctly. Love your Spode Blue Willow! I just bought a set of it and it is so pretty, I just love it!

  9. I used to do this too when I lived at home. (I bet this was my mother's idea.) I should go back to this--I agree it makes putting away dishes so much easier. Love the blue dishes and Lilly cup--it looks like my dishwasher. I also just left you a little award on my blog. Thanks so much for writing such a wonderful blog! http://glitterista.blogspot.com/2010/07/sunshine-award.html

  10. I'm so lazy about it, I don't have a dishwasher and just have a cup to dry silverware in and always just leave them there and grab them as needed.

  11. I do it religiously. Started doing it about two years ago but I still can't get my girlfriend to participate. So I go behind her and resort the utensils.

I've found that everything gets cleaner if they are placed with the working portion of the utensils upwards.

It is now clear I have put way too much thought into this.

  12. I haven't thought to do this... So thanks Erin, I can't wait till the next time I have to load my dishwasher and I stand there and think about what to do... It's going to consume me... You've added hours of procrastination to my life...

Good seeing you last weekend at the polo match!
I hope my shoes make the blog.... ;-)
