The exhibition was at the New York Historical Society.

My favorite part besides the fan letters were the mail order ticket envelopes. The artwork reminded me of what covered my notebooks in grade school.
I first found out about the exhibit from Tory Burch. Once I found out Tory was a Grateful Dead fan I decided to come clean...
RFK 1995, Our one and only Dead Show

We had backstage passes.
Don’t let the collared shirts fool you JCW and I have done our fair share of noodle dancing, have a drawer entirely devoted to bootlegs, find ourselves playing name that Dead tune, and will go see a cover band every so often. However, I am not planning on trading in my Revas for Birkenstocks anytime soon.

if Tory likes it, it must be okay! :)

What a cute post!! Is that you and JCW in 1995?
ReplyDeleteYour trip to NYC inspires me to go!! Happy B-day!
I never attended a Grateful Dead concert, but I think Hubby did. He certainly wears the T-shirt enough (which I think is ready for the rag bag, but he won't give it up). Love Tory's take on the Dead Head T-shirt. Very chic!
ReplyDeleteThat's so cool about Tory! Love her outfit in that picture too!
ReplyDeleteConfession: I'm marrying a Deadhead! It was so nice to read your post; we have two rows of bookshelf full of old tapes, and a (small, artistic) poster framed in the bathroom. When T first caught my eye, I couldn't resist the little bit of tie dye peaking out from underneath his pink RL oxford! I have definitely come to appreciate the Dead over the past few years, and if the pile of Liquid Blue tie dyes in the bottom dresser drawer is any indication, there will be quite a few more tunes for years to come. T's in law school now and a little more preppy than hippie (despite his best efforts); as they say, "What a long strange trip it's been!"
ReplyDeleteI went to several Dead Shows in 80's in Philly. I always overindulged and fell asleep during the Space set.
ReplyDeleteAww love the blast from the past and the pic is priceless! So cute- 8th grade right? No need to hide your deadhead roots...maybe you should post on Wilmer's Park next?
ReplyDeleteCool memories. I was at that show. One of the very last. Jerry died about 2 months after that show.
ReplyDeleteHave you and JCW been dating all those 15 years? That is great.
Not the entire time but the majority. We have known each other since we were 12...guess we got lucky early!
ReplyDeleteLOVED this post! I too first discovered this on Tory's site...and have not made it into the city yet to see it! I have seen many, many shows...mostly in the 80s, and have a bunch of drawers dedicated to my "retired"show clothes...great memories in the music!
ReplyDeleteI would have LOVED to see this exhibit but just read it already closed! We will miss it when we are up there.
ReplyDeletetory burch is a grateful dead fan NO WAY! who would have thought! I love it!
