We have officially set a wedding date! To kick off planning I received a copy of Town & Country Weddings in the mail. Micaela English from the magazine wrote a great piece on bachelorette parties.
The first step is going to be the dress...maybe I will do something sleek and sophisticated or possible go with all of the standard bows and whistles and really feel like a bride.

I have been fantasizing about veering from tradition and pre-ordering the only dress from fashion week.
Any words of wedding wisdom before the whirlwind?
Wedding schmedding, get that dress and 2 tkts to Bora Bora and elope! XXOO
ReplyDeleteI am sure everyone has told you this already but, it will be over before you know it. Slow down and enjoy this time!

ReplyDeleteCongratulations on setting a date! So exciting! The Oscar de la Renta dress is AMAZING!!!

Oh goodness, it has been a while, but I would just say, don't take anything too seriously or you will end up a bridezilla ;) I saved everything and then bought the Darcy Miller scrapbook
ReplyDeleteOh and enjoy the process <3
Agree wholeheartedly with Alice! Though I'd pick the Seychelles. :-) Seriously, congrats on moving forward. Do tell- are you going to be a spring, summer or fall bride?
ReplyDeleteI have LOVED planning my wedding - but I have loved our life together even more.
ReplyDeleteThe best advice I was give is this:
Remember to enjoy each other and that the wedding is one day. Be more excited for the days after the wedding, when you are HUSBAND and WIFE than the day you are his bride.
It has really stuck with me.
We really enjoyed the planning and dress shopping, every minute of it. But we also had lots of help because we were in Oklahoma & the wedding was in Michigan. I did go with the first dress I tried on, and loved it. But methinks it wouldn't be a bad think if you snagged the Oscar and jetted away!
ReplyDeleteSending you a smile,
tp
I would go with sleek! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy planning!! It's such a fun time but it goes by quickly...although it is nice to be married now and not have to worry about wedding things! I think if anyone could pull off that Oscar de la Renta dress for a wedding it would be you!
ReplyDeleteGirl, it's your day! Do everything you want the way you want and just have fun!
ReplyDeleteSo exciting!
ReplyDeleteHow exciting! I know you will plan something amazing.
ReplyDeleteYou are so patient to have waited this long to start the planning! My instinct tells me you are going to be a summer bride.
ReplyDeleteMy advice - it's easy to get wrapped up in the latest and greatest in the wedding magazine (and pinterest) land, but avoid anything trendy and stick with classic and timeless choices that you will be happy with in years from now. I cannot tell you how many times I saw mason jars and burlap at a wedding in the past year. Don't second guess yourself!
And to Alice's point...Bora Bora is amazing, I spent my honeymoon there!!
I'm in the Alice camp!
ReplyDeleteGet that dress, charter a big-ass boat and sail the Med for a month!
If you can't bring yourself to do that, have the smallest wedding party you can. Less women, less drama - lol!
I cannot not wait to hear more details about your planning
ReplyDeleteI have pinned that fabulous dress countless times! Congratulations! 22 years later we always say sm wedding , big party:
ReplyDeleteThat dress is so great. Quite bold. Would be perfect in some black tie setting! I also love this Marchesa gown: http://www.neimanmarcus.com/p/Marchesa-Couture-Sequined-Illusion-Gown/prod149350212/?eVar4=You%20May%20Also%20Like%20RR
ReplyDeleteXOXO
YAY! How fun to start the planning. Good luck finding a dress! I went with my sister and she found her perfect dress within the first hour. Phew!
ReplyDeleteAhhh yay! Sooooo when is the big day?!
ReplyDeleteYAYY!! SO exciting. Although it has been a bit stressful, I have been having a blast planning! ENJOY!
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited for you! My wedding was 16 years ago. If I could have a redo it would be tiny and uncomplicated. I did love having a wedding gown though : )
ReplyDeleteKeep it classic and timeless (as I'm sure you will). Take moments through out the wedding weekend to just stop and enjoy the moment and take a mental picture. Pick a maid of honor otherwise the bridesmaids get stuck because no one wants to take the reins/step on anyones toes. Best wishes!
ReplyDeleteThe mother of the bride in me (2 times and 1 in process) has been mulling over this post. I have to say I adore the dress. But you're a traditionalist and would look amazing in a traditional sleek white gown. My concern about the de la Renta is that in pictures the dress would dominate and perhaps distract. Whatever you decide to do, though, I'm sure you will look gorgeous and the whole affair will be chic and fun.
ReplyDeleteJust remember that the wedding is a short ceremony, the party is for fun, but the marriage is the goal.
ReplyDeleteI bought the first dress I tried on and went in the opposite direction of what I had in my mind. Best of luck with everything! Can't wait to hear when the date is. ;)
ReplyDeleteI could see you in something very Jackie O.

So exciting!!! Can't wait to begin hearing details!
ReplyDeletePlan! Plan! Plan!
ReplyDelete... Then when you wake up the morning of the wedding, no matter what plan's have fallen through suddenly or what's left undone, ignore them and enjoy your day. At that point, they're no longer your problem. Remember your guests will enjoy the wedding so long as you're happy!
