Philadelphia II

The next morning we were rested and eager to start the day.

The Union League was filled with magnificent oil paintings and I loved this technique of floating them in unexpected spaces.

The first stop was breakfast.

JCW & EAS

After breakfast we took a litttle tour around the club.

On the agenda was a final visit to the The Barnes Foundation before the collection is moved to Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Center City, Philadelphia. The Barnes will close it's Merion galleries this weekend. It was very important to my mom that JCW saw the collection how it was intended to be viewed.

EAS & JCW

JCW had another item on his agenda and that was a trip to Dalessandro's Steaks & Hoagies. He had seen their cheese steak on the PBS documentary Sandwiches That You Will Like.

With the sandwich "experience" from the day before still fresh in our minds we decided to not lose faith in JCW quite yet. I am glad we gave him the benefit of the doubt because it was the best cheese steak I had ever eaten and I don't even really like cheese steaks...when in Rome!

On the way home we made a pit stop at Cracker Barrel.

I was dying to get a Peg Game ever since I beat JCW a few years back...he will never hear the end of it! What do you like to do in Philadelphia?

Special thanks to BLS for such a fun weekend....consider yourself warned that hanging with JCW will add inches to your waistline! xx

There are only 2 more days to vote in the "Lilly Lovers" contest, so remember to cast your votes. I am very excited to see what 3 photos the folks at Lilly pick out of the Facebook top 20!

  3. It is awesome to see you and JCW went to Dalessandro's! I used to live in Roxborough when I went to grad school at Villanova. I thought they had the best cheesesteak in the area. I ate there twice a week for a year. I gained a few pounds, but I was a happy man.

  5. My motherland! Philly is an amazing city filled with wonderful old haunts (like the Union League) and a very rich culture. Glad you guys enjoyed the trip!

I'm always happy to wonder around the city checking out local art and all of the creative small business that can be found on every block. Also, the restaurant scene there is amazing!

  6. E.A.S. Thank you for posting about this. I have been so utterly busy with my studies that I have been meaning to see the collection before it is moved. It is really more than disappointing it is an atrocity. Talk to Lawyer Liz about Will & Trust's and I am sure she can attest to the unjustifiable means of such a move. I frequent the Racquet Club & the Union League and I am glad you enjoyed them both. Congratulation to J.C.W. Next time you are in town let me know and I will give you both a grand tour of campus.
