Last week there was a two-alarm fire at the Mt. Washington Tavern and the black smoke was seen for miles in Baltimore.
EAS & JCW, Sky Bar at the Tavern
I will miss the Tavern's nachos and french onion soup, meeting friends for drinks, playing the hook game on the roof, saying hi to Dano, having high school reunion meetings, seeing my sister drop her new iPhone in the toilet, going to charity events, requesting songs, a meeting place for first date setups, celebrating my 29th birthday and most importantly, intense games of shuffle board....we are looking forward to the reopening!
I was sooooo sad to hear this! My hubby and I met there during the blizzard of 96 and started dating. We both lived in Mt. Washington and walked there with roommates to wait out the snow. The rest in history! I hope they rebuild!
ReplyDeleteI believe I staggered in The Mt. Washington Tavern one Saturday night as part of a Baltimore pub crawl with friends back in the early 80s when it was first mentioned in the Preppy handbook! Was a fun time! Sorry to see that a Baltimore Prep landmark damaged:-(
ReplyDeleteIs The Crease bar still in Towson or downtown? I recall it was a big LAX hangout.
I also have many fond memories from the Tavern and am looking forward to seeing them rebuild and reopen!
ReplyDeleteSOOOOO sad!! The hubs is a B'More lax-er, so this is ground zero for him. Hope it's back and better than ever soon :)
ReplyDeleteWe were very lucky to have had a great dinner with the boys there the night before it burned down. There is such a dearth of places like the Tavern in Baltimore so we always gravitated there. As we went from being footloose and fancy-free "kids" to having kids ourselves, we did find ourselves moving from the front room and the oyster bar upstairs or at least in the Garden. The Tavern's absence will be sorely missed over the next few months.

I've never been there! I'll have to add it to my list of places to eat once it's back up and running!
ReplyDeletemaybe it will be better than ever after the reopening!
ReplyDeleteI've never been there but this is very sad! Hope they are back on their feet soon!
ReplyDeleteJust saw the fb chatter b/t my Loyola peeps over the news yesterday. So sad. That, the Crease, and Swallow at the Hollow were all big hot spots back in the 80's. That's where ya trolled for hot lax players :)
ReplyDeleteloving your ruffles!!
ReplyDeleteditto what summer said! it is such a shame about the MWT. We were laughing about all of the time/money we spent there at a party the other night. They're trying to re-build and re-open by Preakness.
ReplyDeleteThe Crease is still in Towson...I haven’t been there in years! Bmore is definitely chuck full of lax players...it’s a great place to be if you are into shaggy hair! xx
ReplyDeleteOH NO !! Dano! I saw him at the bus stop near Gilman the other day. Bless his heart. I was at loyola from 88-92.. and remember him from college days xo
