RC Art Scene

Last month I participated in a fundraising art event for Roanoke College alumni. The event was held at Maryland Art Place.

Each guest received a stemless wine glass with the event logo that one of the artists designed.

The food was from Alexander's Tavern.

In true Roanoke fashion there was no skimping on the booze.

The gallery was filled with alumni artwork...

 It was great to see so many Roanoke faces...

I was thrilled to have sold three out of my five photographs and support such a great cause. One of my college roommates bought my favorite picture of a horse's muzzle.

Special thanks to the Baltimore Alumni Committee for organizing the event, the donors, artists and everyone that came out to support Roanoke College...this was definitely a change from the typical bar crawl/tailgating alumni events.

I have to admit that I am not always on board with some of  J.Crew's trendier items but I am infatuated with Mickey Drexler and certainly watching J.Crew and the Man that dressed America this Thursday, May 24th at 10pm EST.

I remember placing my first J.Crew order...well circling the items in the catalog and giving it to my mom. I was in 6th grade and my fashion selection was mainly body suits with flannels tied around my waist. I will also always associate this look with songs like  November Rain and Under the Bridge. Did you take part in the flannel shirt trend? When was your first J.Crew order?

It's Preakness Eve which holds the same sense of anticipation and excitement as Christmas Eve for some folks here in Maryland. Tomorrow I will be hearing the sweet sound of vendors yelling "Susans, get your Susans".

I don't know if our cabinets can hold yet another commemorative Preakness glass? Lawyer Liz and I were very spoiled last year with unlimited Black-Eyed Susans in the Triple Crown Room...looks like this year we will be roughing it in the grandstands.

Eating Right

It's time I stepped up my game and started eating better. Pinterest is such a great source for healthy recipes...like these spinach burgers which I have been dying to make.

 
My favorite foods are pizza and ice cream (such a child) with salad coming in third. I try to eat one salad a day. This garden picnic video by the the author of "Salad for Dinner" definitely puts me in the mood for salad.

The blog Eat and {Relish} is true eating inspiration and makes me want to move to Boulder and learn to cook.
