Spring Smoothies

I can never get enough smoothies. JCW and myself are Jamba Juice junkies but unfortunately there aren't any in Baltimore so the next best thing is Smoothie King.

I decided to go with a trim down smoothie...I need all the help I can get in the midst of spring. I ordered my sister's favorite selection...the Angel Food smoothie which is Strawberries, Bananas, Soy Protein, Non-Fat Milk, Vanilla, Turbinado, Honey.

I was impressed that Smoothie King even has their own Lip Balm.

The first weekend in spring was absolutely gorgeous and the smoothies hit the spot.

Burning of the Socks

The burning of the socks is a spring ritual for the boating community of Annapolis, Maryland. This event began 34 years ago in the Annapolis Sailyard and has become a traditional among many boating communities around the country.

Each year folks gather to burn their socks in celebration of the start of a sockless season. It's a tradition to read the following poem...

Ode to the Sock Burners
By Jefferson Holland, Poet Laureate of Eastport, 1995

Them Eastport boys got an odd tradition
When the sun swings to its Equinoxical position,
They build a little fire down along the docks,
They doff their shoes and they burn their winter socks.

Yes, they burn their socks at the Equinox;
You might think that’s peculiar, but I think it’s not,
See, they’re the same socks they put on last fall,
And they never took ‘em off to wash ‘em, not at all…

So they burn their socks at the Equinox
In a little ol’ fire burning nice and hot.
Some think incineration is the only solution,
‘Cause washin’ ‘em contributes to the Chesapeake’s pollution.

Through the spring and the summer and into the fall,
They go around not wearin’ any socks at all,
Just stinky bare feet stuck in old deck shoes,
Whether out on the water or sippin’ on a brew.

So if you sail into the Harbor on the 20th of March,
And you smell a smell like Limburger sauteed with laundry starch,
You’ll know you’re downwind of the Eastport docks
Where they’re burning their socks for the Equinox.

I don't wear socks all winter unless I am running or wearing boots. I have become pretty familiar with people staring at my feet or asking me, wear are your socks? Make sure you don't get caught wearing socks at the Equinox...Welcome Spring!

St. Patrick's Day Hug Pretzels

The first time I saw this crafty pretzel and chocolate concoction was when Ms. Queen Bee Swain made them around the holidays. Seeing as I am a lover of salty and sweet, I planned on eventually making these little treats.

Ingredients
Hershey's Hugs or Kisses
Pretzel Rings, Wheels, or Snaps
M&M's

On a baking sheet, place the Hugs on top of the pretzels. Bake for 3 minutes at 200 degrees. After they come out of the oven place an M&M in the center equally smooshing down the gooey chocolate.

Place them in the fridge.

Once the chocolate has hardened... serve and enjoy.

Happy St. Patrick's Day! xx

Old Brands New Tricks Update

I had been eagerly anticipating the arrivals of L.L.Bean's new line L.L.Bean Signature.

Women's Chambray Shirt Dress

Women's Saltwash Canvas Accessories Bag

Men's Gingham Poplin Dress Shirt

Men's Leather Field Duck Belt

Women's Tie Neck Port Tee

Men's Sperry Sea Mate Shoes

I recently placed an order with Lands' End Canvas and was pleasantly surprised when I received a thank you note in the mail.

I have received thank you notes from high end retailers...where the sales associates work on commission but I never expected to get one from Lands' End. When I graduated from college I worked at Neiman Marcus for a year and a half and on occasion I would send a customer a thank you note. As a result of those thank you notes I gained some wonderful clients. I think Lands End Canvas is off to a great start and I commend them for trying to build a loyal clientele in a crowded marketplace.

Revamped Hovey Pad

Hollister Hovey was one of the very first blogs I started reading. I couldn't get enough of Hollister and Porter's adventures and their vintage safari meets Ralph Lauren style. A Trip Down South alerted me to the piece Apartment Therapy did on the sister's revamped loft in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

The New York Times did an article entitled The New Antiquarians back in July of 2009. These are some of the images from the Hovey pad before the makeover. Notice the eggshell blue walls use to be a rich black. I enjoyed comparing the new photos to the old, and seeing the same furniture or accessory in a different location.
