Snowpocalypse 2010 II

Sunday morning we ventured out on the roads and headed to the grocery store.

Luckily we had an SUV or else I don't think we would have gotten very far.

Why is milk always one of the first things to go before a snow storm?

We got stuff to make BLTs.

I do eat meat, but not very often so I opted for veggie bacon. JCW wanted no part of this. I just love Morning Star Farms products.

My veggie BLT was delicious.

We took another walk...it was so nice to get out of the house and get some fresh air.

EAS & JCW

Things were starting to melt.

There was still a snow blanket on everything.

After the walk we warmed up by a fire.

We ended up getting even more snow last night...it will probably be some time before the roads are back to normal.

Happy Birthday MBW! She is also fond of veggie BLTs.
Have a fantastic birthday and hope to see you soon my dear! xx

Snowpocalypse 2010 I

The snow started to fall Friday afternoon.

The next day the snow was still coming down. Apparently the winds got up to 40 mph.

You couldn't even see the cars parked on the street.

We deiced to take a hike in the middle of the storm.

Trekking up hill in that much snow proved to be rather difficult.

Some had an easier time then others.

It was my workout for the day.

Everything was snow covered.

JCW made waffles when we got home.

I definitely earned that meal.

Snowed In

Maryland was slammed with a whopping 2-3 feet of snow this weekend. It was the perfect excuse for a lazy gluttonous weekend. We enjoyed watching the snow fall Friday evening but could have done without the thunder and lighting in the middle of the night. We kept busy watching movies...

This movie along with Can't Buy Me Love where two of my favs from back in the day.

I am normally not big on cartoons but this had the sweetest story line and I loved the animals.

The Secret Life of Bees
Great film...I actually got chills at one point.

I love anything with Sandra Bullock. My favorite scene was when she was chanting in the woods...oh and her orange birkin was some serious eye candy.

Twlight
Vampires aren't really my cup of tea...they are just not fashionable enough and they are in desperate need of bronzer. My attention was held the entire film and it turned out to be pretty romantic.

This was the first time I saw this movie and it was very cute.

I only heard bits and pieces of this one...someone had to clean the kitchen after all of the food fixn'.

I hadn't seen this in years. JCW told me that after this movie came out he was at a Taco Bell drive-tru and they kept saying "and then"...that scene is just too funny.

Some of the movies were compromises on either mine or JCW's part. We were very fortunate that we didn't lose power. Good luck to everyone that still needs to dig out and safe travels.

I Married Adventure

I found a 1st edition copy of Osa Johnson's I Married Adventure. I was very pleased that the book was in excellent condition...it's always a gamble when you order something used online.

My next task was to find a home for the animal print book. I am all about browns and beiges (with the exception of blue and white) so it worked well with my color scheme.

Its new home is on one of my garden stools.

This image of Osa Johnson's books perched upon Goyard luggage is one of my favorites. The photo is from Elizabeth Bauer Design.

As far as accent furniture goes it doesn't get better then vintage Goyard trunks. I like the mystery of antiques and the idea of not knowing who owned them or where they have been. I saw this one in Ralph Lauren at the Chevy Chase store.

If you are interested in picking up a copy of one of these books check out the Matters of Style Store.

Allergies...they 're back

This time last week I was recovering from an allergy attack. The night before I was running on a treadmill at the gym and it became very difficult to even finish a mile. My first thought was that I must be out of shape and later I realized that something just wasn’t right. My eyes were blood shot and then they began swelling. I immediately knew I was having an allergy attack. I popped an Allegra and called my doctor.

JCW was in class so my mom came and whisked me away to Patient First. My mom always finds a way to make me laugh even if it’s totally inappropriate.

My doctor was able to access my allergist records and order lab work that could potentially help determine the cause of these attacks. The folks at Patient First weren’t able to draw my blood. Sometimes it can be rather difficult to find my veins. They tried compresses and massaging my arms but ended up turning me away.

Kiehl's Avocado Eye Cream allowed me to return to public a little less puffy.

It has been a year and a month since my last attack and I thought they had gone away for good. I am going to stay positive and pray that this doesn't become a pattern. It would be a lot easier to digest if the cause of these attacks was determined. If I have another one it better be during business hours....it would make things a lot easier.

Special thanks to my mom for coming to my rescue and keeping me highly entertained. Your support means to world to me and I am glad you didn’t pass out during the trial and error attempts at drawling blood. xx

Homage To Otho

Meet Otho, he is an English Bulldog. Bulldogs are great guard dogs and very affectionate, despite their intimating appearance. Otho is sweet as pie...he is the gentlest dog I know.

Danish Blue Bulldog Plate, Agatha & Louise

This was Otho at his parent's Christmas party. He was feeling festive and wore his plaid bowtie. He was a gracious host all night. He even made sure to take care of any food that dropped on the floor.

He has his eye on these Thomas Pink cuff links for his next formal affair.

Otho as a puppy.

Needlepoint Pillow, Agatha & Louise

Otho's favorite activities include car rides, frolicking in the snow and playing in shallow water...he can't swim but he doesn't let that stop him. He does not care for large foreign objects in the house in particular boxes and Christmas trees. His bedtime is 10:00 pm and he doesn't appreciate if he is kept waiting.

Otho's favorite toy is his Kong filled with peanut butter. He likes to snack on baby carrots and his favorite store is Paws in Annapolis.

Boys' Bulldog Tie, J.Crew

Special thanks to Lawyer Liz and her beau for letting me spend one on one time with Otho on the couch...you have raised a perfect gentleman. xx

St. Moritz Polo World Cup

This past weekend was the St. Moritz Polo World Cup on Snow.

This four day tournament takes place in Switzerland and the polo matches are held on the frozen lake of St. Moritz.

It has been an annual event since 1985.

The top teams from around the world coming from Argentina, Chile, the UK, and Australia compete for the Cartier Trophy.

The frozen conditions and attitude increase the physical demands on the riders and the polo ponies.

This year they even had a physiotherapist available for the animals.

The four teams are sponsored by Cartier, Brioni, Bank Julius Baer, and Maserati.

Team Cartier rode away with the trophy for 2010.

Going to the St. Moritz Polo World Cup on Snow is on my bucket list.
