Philadelphia I

The week before JCW's graduation my mom took us on a trip to celebrate.

We stayed at The Union League Club of Philadelphia.

Most of the spaces in the club were traditional with modern twists.

After checking in, lunch was the only thing on our minds.

We headed to Reading Terminal Market.

JCW had seen DiNic's on Man vs. Food so we made our way to the end of the line.

I didn't want to have food envy so I ordered the same thing as JCW... a whole roasted pork sandwich with broccoli rabe and sharp provolone. I only had a few bites and decided it wasn't for me.

After our "interesting" lunch experience my mom and I decided to make the dinner arrangements. The restaurant at the Union League was much more our style. The hotel was buzzing with weddings, reunions and folks celebrating Penn's graduation.

After dinner we headed to the bar for drinks.

I had the pleasure of staying here a year or so back. It was an incredible place to stay and the bonus was being allowed to use the library! I could check out books and take them back to my room. There was a convenient book drop at the front desk.

So glad you had fun in my city. I've never seen the appeal of Man vs Food. There are so many other more appealing places in Reading Terminal and Center City.

Congrats to JCW.

What great place to stay! I find the old Civil War officers portraits impressive! Is JCW graduate from Wharton?
If you ever get a chance visit Longwood Gardens, and the Chaddsford/Brandywine area of PA. Great places to eat Mendenhall and old Dupont kids hangout called Buckley's Tavern.

I used to go to Father Daughter dances at the Union League when I was little! Looks like a great time, and I agree, definitely visit Chadds Ford and Longwood Gardens if you can.

I guess I must be a female minority... Man vs. Food is one of my favorite shows. I love Adam.

Looks like fun! I've only traveled to Philly for work, never to play. I think it would be a lovely place to explore.

what a great trip! i love the union league! and i have to agree with you about dinics - the regular roast beef is delicious (in small quantities!)... but not more than that.

reading terminal has delicious falafel and couscous, too! glad to hear you enjoyed your time in the city of brotherly love!

Man vs. food is by far the most enjoyable way for the modern male to display his manhood without the need to injure someone else. A tie and a jacket are just fine, as long as it is balanced out by a little brutishness.
Let the good man know there are other culinary challenges in my fine town... Johnny Hots for some mouth singing sausage.

That was so sweet of your mom to plan this trip :) Congrats to JCW on his graduation!

I'm going to have to check out the Union League Club the next time we're in Philly. And I will not check out DiNics :)

So much fun! I got married in Philadelphia the very same weekend. We had our rehearsal at The Philadelphia Racquet Club, which I have noticed that you have posted about in the past. We also considered The Union League, but it was already booked for the weekend. What a small world!
