Country Evenings

With the Fall season comes the end of polo matches.

EAS & Laywer Liz

A belated 30th Birthday gift from Lawyer Liz and her beau (now husband).

It was a beautiful Old Maryland Engraved silver ice scoop...we both collect the same silver pattern.

There are six seven minute chukkers or periods in a polo game.

A spread of dips.

The group

The peaceful sounds of the country...crickets.

Pomegranate Mojitos

Dinner set around a old stone well on a cool night.

Special thanks to Mr. Maryland and In Shape Sasha for hosting such fun evenings at their house in the country.

RL Magazine

There is no question that Ralph Lauren is the end all be all when it comes to style. The articles and images in RL Magazine are equally as attractive and compelling as RL clothing and decor.

You will find articles on fashion, travel, sports, dinning, art, gift giving and much more.

After reading " Under Turquoise Skies" I now feel like an expert on my favorite stone.

I also discovered Dyland Lauren's new book "Dylan’s Candy Bar: Unwrap Your Sweet Life" which goes on sale October 5th and is currently on my Amazon wish list. I know my sugartarian sister will not be far behind.

Bittersweet

Last Friday Alice from Summer is a Verb posted that CK Bradley is going to be closing its doors come November.

I guess this is goodbye to receiving my CKB goodies in the mail.

Farewell to having a place to turn when I am in need of a dress.

On a sweeter note the post also contained a chance to win the coveted Meg Carter "Big Pearl, little lapis" studs...and the earrings went to yours truly.

Special thanks to Alice and Meg Carter for lifting my spirits during the mourning of CKB. My vintage CKB designs will always be cherished and I will proudly wear my consolation studs. xx

Vineyard Vines

After having our copies of "True Prep" signed we went to the Vineyard Vines store in Georgetown.

I am a huge fan of the nautical decor.

Perfectly stacked polos

Limited edition "True Prep" tote

Cubbies of colorful tote bags

I loved all of the pieces from the tennis collection...especially the skirt.

This was the first time I saw the Vineyard Vines Harrow squash racquet.

I immediately checked out all of the details.

Would this racquet help my squash game?

Everything True Prep

SAS and I hit the road to have our newly purchased copies of "True Prep" signed, along with a couple copies of "The Official Preppy Handbook".

The legendary and acclaimed prep Lisa Birnbach was going to be signing books at L.L.Bean in Virgina and we were not about to miss it.

By the time we arrived the excitement had reached its peak...it was a similar feeling to arriving at a Lilly sale.

Lisa signed JCW's copy of "The Original Preppy Handbook", but not without asking if he was worthy first. She was extremely personable and surpassed my expectations. She is the epitome of a “true prep”.

She immediately picked up a copy of the book and turned to page 86 when she spotted the Goyard bag on my arm.

The very next morning a pal from my prep school days saw this photo in The Express.

She stuck a few copies in the mail and in a couple days I had my hands on a hard copy.

Just when the excitement had started to wear off The Washington Post ran this article. It certainly put a spring in my step.

Stubbs and Wootton even launched "True Prep" slippers.

Vineyard Vines created a collection of limited edition ties and tote bags.

It was no surprise that Lilly Pulitzer was on board with the"True Prep" craze. There was even a Lilly look shown in a"True Prep" segment on the Today Show.

Lisa was wearing a "True Prep" crest bracelet and that is what I was checking out in the Post photograph. You can find them at The Preppy Princess.

JCW even jumped on the "True Prep" bandwagon and emailed me this link from Guest of a Guest on a former classmate that did some modeling for the book.

Lisa, Good luck with the rest of your book tour and I will always remember to have my shoes resoled.

Special thanks to everyone that alerted me of The Washington Post article and for all of the kind words...also to prep school Jayne for first spotting my claim to fame photograph . xx

Antler Opportunity

I have always been drawn to antlers, driftwood, and seashells because of their organic shapes. I found this antler in an antique shop in Annapolis and knew it would be coming home with me.

The antler became JCW's new key hook.

Autumn

A chill in the air, apple cider, crackling leaves, quilted coats, pumpkins, and shorter days. Happy Fall! xx

Jonathan Adler

It all began for Jonathan Adler as a child taking pottery at summer camp. A few years after college Barneys placed an order for his pots and then he opened his own store in Soho. I was a fine arts major in college and spent countless hours in the ceramics studio. I can attest that working with clay does wonders for the soul.
