The Carlyle

Last month JCW and I went to NYC to celebrate my birthday. We made dinner reservations at The Carlyle on the Upper East Side.

We were very fortunate to have seen the legendary Bobby Short perform at Cafe Carlyle many years ago.

JCW & EAS

The Carlyle is synonymous with the Kennedys. They owned an apartment on the 34th floor.

If those walls could talk...the hotel opened in 1930 and it certainly has a lot of history.

After dinner we decided to head downtown and meet JCW's brother at The Standard for drinks.

Graphic Image 2012 Planner Giveaway

I am hosting a giveaway with Graphic Image for a 2012 datebook. I started using Graphic Image planners when I worked at Neimans and have been hooked ever since. As fabulous as it is to store things electronically I will always be someone that prefers to put my appointments, to-do lists or ideas on paper.  The giveaway is for the datebook shown below, but the winner can swap it out for any other datebook they wish and also have it personalized with their name or initials. I am partial to the orange datebooks but don't let me influence your decision if you win.

The giveaway ends Friday, August 26th, at 5pm EST and is only open to U.S. residents. The winner will be drawn using Random.org.

The Giveaway:
  1. One entry...leave a comment, you must be a follower.
  2. For an additional entry = 2 entries...become a fan on Facebook.
  3. For an additional entry = 3 entries...become a fan of Graphic Image on Facebook.
  4. For an additional entry = 4 entries...tweet about this giveaway @GraphicImageNY.
  5. For an additional entry = 5 entries...post about this giveaway on your blog.
Each entry must be in a separate comment. If you don't have a blog make sure to leave your email address in your comment. In addition to the giveaway Graphic Image is also offering my readers 20% off with the code DATEBOOK. Good luck!

Blogoversary

I started Let The Tide Pull Your Dreams Ashore two years ago, just before JCW started business school. When he graduated I toyed with the idea of stopping or cutting back but ultimately I had more to share. I am so glad I decided to stay on the ride! Thanks so much for reading and for all of the support. xx

I find the great thing in this world is not so much where we stand, as in what direction we are moving: To reach the port of heaven, we must sail sometimes with the wind and sometimes against it, but we must sail, and not drift, nor lie at anchor.  -Oliver Wendell Holmes

Receipt in the bag?

I won a gift card from J. McLaughlin and it was burning a whole in pocket so I headed to my local store in Ruxton, Maryland.

I picked up a couple basics...a cami and a white sleeveless top.

I hadn't been to the Bethesda store in a while so it was a great excuse to take a trip to Bethesda Row with BLS & SAS.

I found a new Catalina Tee for fall and they even managed to track down a Yacht Print Bustier for me that was on sale.

J. McLaughlin is one of those stores that I can always find something...more like lots of somethings. Thanks J. McLaughlin!

Six Chukkers

Summer means the smell of freshly cut grass and polo matches.

Lawyer Liz & EAS

I have always wanted to take polo lessons. I grew up riding and one of the most memorable activities at Pony Camp was learning about polo and playing around on the polo ponies. I am hoping my skills would be better now that I have a few years of field hockey under my belt. Note to self...add polo lessons to bucket list.

Rainy Weekend

I took advantage of the rainy weekend and saw The Help. I will never look at chocolate pie the same again!

Another one of my favorite things to do on a lazy Sunday is watch CBS's Sunday Morning. Yesterday we learned of Brit Marling a rising star who graduated from Georgetown.

Shopping Gods

I am a firm believer that I have shopping gods. A few months back I bought a Rugby Gingham Puff Shirt in blue and when I went back to order it in black it was sold out in my size. I saw that Rue LaLa was having a Rugby sale and low and behold the shirt that got away was ripe for the picking! There will be a Lilly Pulitzer sale on Rue LaLa today and I am hoping my shopping gods have some tricks up their sleeves. Do you believe in shopping gods?
