Dark ‘N’ Stormy

I love rum and I am a huge fan of the Dark ‘N’ Stormy. A Dark ‘N’ Stormy is the official drink of Bermuda and consist of Gosling's Black Seal Rum, Ginger Beer (preferably Barritts), and a lime. Gosling’s Rum and Barritts Ginger Beer have gone together like peanut butter and jelly for years. There was a period this summer when Barritts wasn’t being imported into the US and was even more coveted. Goslings released their own ginger beer and their relationship with Barritts dissolved. Goslings was importing Barritts into the US but stopped due to a dispute between the two families. Fortunately for us Dark ‘N’ Stormy drinkers Barritts now has their own US distribution license and are back in the states.

Barritts Ginger Beer is just as freshening on its own. We like to refer to the ginger beer without its counterpart as a Stormy.

When sailing my duties consist of adjusting the running back stays, however most of my time is spent below deck bartending. I have mastered the art of fixing a Dark ‘N’ Stormy in 20 knots of breeze while being thrown back in forth in the cabin. Handles of Goslings are easier to hold and more durable.

I am open to diet Barritts and may even try it if the opportunity presents itself.

My dad loves dark'n'stormys, but I have never tried one! He uses Saranac Ginger Beer, but he does use Gosling's.
