Before lunch we headed further down the beach to
Cape Henlopen Park.
We decided to take our usual summertime walk to the WWII watch towers and back.
There was barely anyone on the beach because of the wind. We did see two people walking back from the towers and they took our picture...I should have known something was up because JCW was being a little too accommodating.
If I had to pick any beach or any location that I considered to be "our place" it would be the watch tower coastline.
Right after snapping this picture, I turned around to find JCW directly behind me down on one knee. I was completely surprised and didn't hear him because of the wind. He had a large grin on his face and I couldn't stop smiling...the rest is history!
Of course I said yes.
We made our way back in 30 knots of wind and there wasn't a soul in sight. There was something so special about walking on the empty beach surrounded by nothing but sky, sea and sand. Just as we were leaving a couple was walking onto the beach and we told them the news.
I was beaming and happily agreed to go to
Arena's for celebratory
Death Fries. I am not sure if it was the fact that we had just gotten engaged or if the Death Fries really were the most delicious thing I had ever tasted? It is also unclear if JCW was excited about being engaged or excited about the Death Fries? He sent this picture to our friends with the caption "Erin really liked the death fries"...it was so much fun to see who noticed the ring and who noticed that there was bacon on the fries. Certain friends thought JCW had actually proposed over Death Fries...I don't need to tell you how fitting of an engagement announcement this was for JCW. We spent the rest of the day chatting and texting with family and friends, followed by a lovely dinner at
The Cultured Pearl.
The following day on our way home we stopped at
Dixie's Parent's house so the boys could smoke a cigar.
Special thanks to JCW for asking me to spend the rest of my life with him...it's already been an adventure and I am ready for much, much more! I also feel very blessed to be able to share this special time with all of you. xx
